The Hobie Mirage iTrek 14 Duo is the answer to a problem I hear all the time: “I want to pedal with my wife, but we have nowhere to store a 14 foot tandem.” This is a two person inflatable pedal kayak that packs into a rolling bag, and each person gets their own MirageDrive GT with kick up fins. It is the tandem fishing kayak for people with small cars and big plans.

Specs: 13 feet 8 inches long, 44 inches wide, a 45 pound fitted hull, 73 pounds fully rigged, and a 600 pound capacity. It runs on two MirageDrive GT pedal drives and comes with a high pressure hand pump, an electric pump, and a wheeled storage bag.
Who the iTrek 14 Duo Is For
This kayak is for couples and fishing buddies who want to pedal together without owning a trailer. It fits travelers who want to take a tandem kayak on vacation, RV owners, and anyone with limited storage. It also works great solo, since you can pedal it from the rear seat with the front drive pulled. If you mostly fish alone in a dedicated rig, a solo kayak makes more sense.
To haul your kayak, we recommend Malone kayak trailers. See them here.
Stability and Handling
At 44 inches wide with pontoon style side chambers, the iTrek 14 Duo is extremely stable. Two people can move around, cast, and even stand in calm water without the tippy tandem feeling. The drop stitch center chamber keeps it rigid and gives it decent speed for an inflatable. It tracks well with the rudder down, and having two drives means plenty of power, even into a headwind. Solo from the back seat, it is still manageable.

Seat and Comfort
Each seat is an aluminum frame seat with breathable nano mesh fabric and a cup holder. The mesh keeps you cool on hot days, and the seats sit at a comfortable height for pedaling. The EVA deck pads give you sure footing and quiet the boat. For a tandem, legroom is generous for both riders.
Storage and Rigging
The open deck layout has room for a cooler, dry bags, and tackle between and behind the seats. There are D rings and tie down points for securing gear, and the EVA pads protect the deck. As a fishing tandem it is more of a platform than a fully rigged boat: there are no built in rod holders or gear tracks, so plan on clamp on or rail mounted accessories if you want to fish it hard. The wheeled storage bag with an extension handle makes the whole package easy to roll to the water.
Pedal Drive Performance
Two MirageDrive GTs with kick up fins mean both riders contribute, and the boat moves with real authority. The kick up fins protect both drives from shallow water and obstacles. Pedaling is smooth and quiet, and the ambidextrous rudder control works from either seat. Pull one drive up and you have a solo pedal kayak. It is one of the few inflatables that keeps up with hard hull tandems on the water.
Hobie’s fin drive also has a meaningful edge over the propeller-style pedal drives most other brands use, and it shows up in shallow water. A propeller typically sticks down a foot or slightly more below the hull and needs a foot of depth or more to spin freely — run skinny and you are either dragging it through the bottom or pulling the whole drive up. Hobie’s fins do not have that problem. They can lay almost flat against the underside of the hull and still flutter enough to keep you moving. You can pedal through water so shallow a propeller drive would be stuck in it.
Honest Drawbacks
Hobie was bought out by Bass Pro Shops in 2026. There has been a period here in 2026 where parts have been scarce for pedal drives during the transition period. This has prevented many from purchasing. However, some dealers are starting to get parts in stock. Before purchasing in 2026 verify that you can find parts like replacement mirage drive fins. In 2027 we imagine parts will be much more accessible. We have spoken with the company on this topic. We are very confident in the brand.
Setup is the tradeoff. Inflating a 13 foot 8 inch tandem with two chambers takes real pumping time, even with the electric pump, and you need to dry it before packing it away. At 600 pounds of capacity it handles two adults fine, but two big guys plus full fishing gear gets tight. As a fishing machine it is basic compared to a Pro Angler, with minimal built in rigging. And the price is premium, you are paying for the Hobie drives and the inflatable engineering. Sharp oyster beds and rocky launches need respect.
