Jackson Kayak built its name on river fishing, and the Coosa X is the newest take on that legacy. At 11 feet 8 inches and 36 inches wide, it is a chunky little boat made for moving water: creeks, rivers, small lakes, and ponds where you need to turn fast and stay stable doing it.

The Coosa X is a paddle kayak first, but Jackson designed it so you can add a trolling motor on the bow or stern. That makes it a solid choice if you want a river boat today and a powered rig tomorrow.

Who the Coosa X Is For

This boat is for river rats. If you spend your time floating creeks, drifting small rivers, or hopping between ponds and small lakes, the Coosa X fits like a glove. It also works well for kayak camping, since the 425-pound capacity and big bow hatch swallow a lot of gear. If most of your fishing happens on big open lakes in heavy wind, a longer boat will track straighter.

Stability and Standing

The Coosa X is one of the most confidence inspiring river boats I have been in. The 36-inch width and added bow volume keep it steady in current and let you stand to sight fish or cast around cover. It handles ledges, riffles, and eddy lines the way a river kayak should: it pivots quickly when you need it to and does not get pushed around as much as you would expect from an 11-foot boat.

Comfort and Seat

Jackson’s EZ Hi-Lo seat is one of the best in the business. You can raise or lower it with one hand, which is huge when you want to paddle low in wind or sit high to see into the water. For 2026 models, Jackson ships the Comfort Seat 5.0 with a deeper base and better posture support. I have spent 8-hour days in Jackson seats without the usual back and butt complaints.

Storage and Rigging

The deck layout was clearly designed by people who fish rivers. In-gunnel rod storage keeps up to four rods per side protected and out of the way, which matters when you are sliding under low branches. The TriTrak system lets you mount electronics and hide cables without drilling, and the oversized transducer scupper handles most fish finders. There is a large bow hatch for camping gear and a round stern hatch for quick access.

Paddle and Motor Performance

Under paddle power, the Coosa X tracks well enough for an 11’8″ boat and turns on a dime when you edge it into current. It is not a speed demon, and on big lakes you will feel the width in a headwind. For power, the bow and stern are set up for trolling or electric motor installation with a four-bolt stern pattern and a flat bow mount area. Add a motor and this little boat becomes a serious current-fighting machine.

Honest Drawbacks

Weight is the big one. At 94 pounds bare and 102 pounds with the seat, this is not a kayak you casually car-top alone. Plan on a trailer, truck bed, or a cart. It is also wider and slower than comparable paddle kayaks on flat water, so if you mostly fish big open lakes, you might want something longer and narrower.
