Bixpy PP-166: First Look at a Waterproof Solar Battery Pack
I've been testing the Bixpy PP-166, a waterproof, solar chargeable power pack that runs my fish finders, cameras and phone outdoors.
What’s in this video
I’ve had my Bixpy motor for two to three years and it’s one of my most used pieces of gear. Bixpy sent me their new PP-166 power pack, and I’ve been testing it for several days. Here it’s hooked to their optional solar panel, which charges the pack in an afternoon, and I’m charging my phone off it at the same time.
Here’s what it is: 12.8 volts, 13,000 milliamp hours, 166 watt hours. It’s waterproof to 100 feet and built tough. It puts out 12 volts or 5 volts and senses which one your device needs, so a 12 volt fish finder gets 12 volts and a USB phone gets 5. There’s no on/off switch. It only turns on when something is plugged in. They say you can charge a cell phone 25 to 30 times.
It uses lithium iron phosphate cells, the same kind used in electric cars, rated for 2,000 to 3,000 charge cycles. The wall charger takes about six hours and the solar panel about nine. The solar panel is waterproof too. I’ve been using it on my camera gear, my phone and my fish finders. One note: the PP-166 is not made to power the Bixpy motor. It’s a battery for all your other gear.
