Hovsco HovCart Review: A Three-Seat Family E-Bike vs Golf Cart
I put together the Hovsco HovCart cargo e-bike and test it as a family beach cruiser and golf cart replacement with my dad and daughter.
What’s in this video
My dad was hanging out for the week, so we unboxed and built the Hovsco HovCart together, and my daughter Sailor was ready to ride right away. Where I live golf carts are everywhere, so I wanted to see if this could replace one. It has a 750W sustained motor that peaks at 1,300W with 90 Nm of torque, a 48V 15Ah battery with name brand cells, and 20 by 4 inch fat tires. Payload is 450 lb. Top speed is around 28 mph, which is Class 3.
Here’s the cost side. At the time of the video the HovCart ran about $1,300 to $1,800 depending on how you rig it, versus $8,000 to $15,000 for a golf cart. I can usually park it for free. Upkeep is basic bike tools, and the frame is alloy, so salt is less of an issue than the steel frame on most golf carts. It also fits in the garage, rides on bike paths and trails, and goes in a truck bed.
We did a grocery run with Sailor on the back. A laundry basket drops right into the kid carrier for cargo, and the front basket I added later made a big difference. I also drilled the frame to mount a bike lock. The torque sensor feels smooth and natural, and the hydraulic disc brakes stop the weight. With two adults it works, but you feel the weight shift, and my dad said his bent legs got uncomfortable. It handles dirt trails fine and has decent shock absorption.

Quick takeaways
- A laundry basket fits the rear kid carrier and pops out when you need the seat back.
- Two adults is doable for short rides, but expect some weight shift and cramped legs for the passenger.
- 20 by 4 inch fat tires help with sand and rough ground like construction rubble.
- Check your local e-bike rules. In my community a Class 3 at 28 mph didn't seem to need registration.
