How to Install Flush Mount Rod Holders on Your Kayak
I install flush mount rod holders on my sit on top kayak to turn a regular kayak into an angler setup.
What’s in this video
I install flush mount rod holders on a West Marine Abaco 135, which is the same kayak as the Perception Rambler 135. A lot of rod holders need rivets, but the ones I use just take screws, so all you need is a drill with a Phillips bit. Not many folks own a rivet gun, so that’s handy.
I go through prep and tools, cutting the holes, sealing them, installing the backing plates and the final tightening before I go fishing. This works on most kayaks as long as there’s enough room inside the hull for the holder.

Quick takeaways
- These rod holders mount with screws, so no rivet gun is needed, just a drill with a Phillips bit.
- Use sealant and backing plates when you install them.
- Check that there's enough space inside the hull for the holder before you cut.
