Cycrown Run Pro Moped E-Bike Review: Testing the 150 Mile Range Claim

I had to stay off the water for a bit, so I built and tested the Cycrown Run Pro, a budget Amazon moped e-bike with a 150 mile range claim.

What’s in this video

I normally review kayaks, but I had to stay out of the water for a little while, so I tested the Cycrown Run Pro. It’s a moped style e-bike on Amazon that was selling for between $799 and $1,000 at the time, with a claimed 150 mile range. They packaged it really well (lots of zip ties) and included a tool kit. Assembly was simple: handlebars with the Allen key, flip it upside down to mount the wheel, watch the lock washer, then seat, fenders and light.

The ride is soft and spongy, a lot like a mini bike. I picked my daughter up from the bus stop on it, cut across some grass, slipped past traffic in town and took it down a trail. Out of the box it wasn’t even hitting 20 mph. After I changed the P05 setting it hit 22 mph and felt a little more torquey.

Here’s what I found. 22 mph is fast enough for me, and as a parent I like that it isn’t a 50 mph bike for a kid. The dual batteries each have their own switch, so I can run one and keep the other as a get home reserve, or run both together. The disc brakes squeak a bit and don’t stop on a dime, but they get the job done. And I really like that it’s single speed with no derailleur on a bike like this.

Quick takeaways

  • You can run one battery and keep the second full as a get home reserve, or run both at once.
  • Changing the P05 setting let my bike reach 22 mph and gave it a bit more torque.
  • The front and rear disc brakes work but squeak and don't stop as hard as some other e-bikes I've had.
  • Single speed with no derailleur means less to break on a moped style e-bike.
