What’s in this video

Right around 6 p.m. I was in Cape Coral watching Hurricane Helene push water up the canals toward the houses. Boats on lifts in my neighborhood were close to floating off, and once that happens they bang into every other boat and dock around them.

From there I went up the coast through live footage people were posting: water in the streets in Venice, trees down in Sarasota, homes flooding around Pinellas Park, Clearwater and St. Pete Beach. Forecasts were calling for 10 to 20 feet of storm surge in the Big Bend area, so I looked at spots like Cedar Key and Steinhatchee before it got there. Some people were swimming and surfing in it, which was crazy. By 7 p.m., our low tide, water was still creeping into my backyard well past the morning high tide mark, with plenty of wind still blowing. It looked like my neighbors had secured at least one of those boats.
