SKANU: A Skiff, Canoe and Fishing Kayak Hybrid Seen at iCAST
I tried the SKANU at iCAST, a hybrid of a skiff, canoe, fishing kayak and SUP that you can motor, paddle or push pole.
What’s in this video
Is it a skiff, a canoe, a fishing kayak or a SUP? It’s a SKANU. It was designed by Kevin, an angler and boat designer I respect with years in the fishing and boat building industry. You can run it with a 2.5 hp gas outboard or an electric motor, paddle it like a SUP or a kayak, or push pole it across the flats.
It has side scuppers to cut drag, and the chines sit below the waterline, so it’s quieter when you’re sneaking up on fish. There’s a clever rod management deck too. The hull is 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick, so you don’t have to baby it. After trying it at iCAST, I’m definitely getting one.
Quick takeaways
- It can run a 2.5 hp gas outboard or electric motor, or be paddled or push poled.
- Chines below the waterline make it quieter for sneaking up on fish.
- The 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick hull is built to be dragged around.
