I unbox and paddle the Scorpion from Uncharted Watercraft, a small portable kayak, and test its stability, weight capacity and fishing use.

What’s in this video

I love how portable the Scorpion is. It’s 93″ long, 36″ wide and 58 lbs, and it packs down to 43″ by 29″ by 12″. It fits under a bed, in a closet or in nearly any vehicle, so it’s great for condos and RVs.

I ran it through setup, a weight capacity check, a stability test and some fishing. It paddled fine for my wife and her gear at 150 lbs or less, but with me and my gear at 210 lbs, performance suffered. It’s rated at 250 lbs, but I’d keep people and gear under 175.

Key moments

Quick takeaways

  • Rated at 250 lbs, but I found it most enjoyable under about 175 lbs of people and gear.
  • It packs down to 43" x 29" x 12" and assembles with no tools.
  • It paddled about like other recreational kayaks in its length.
