I go bowfishing from my Hobie Pro Angler 14 while sailing, standing on the back of the kayak with my homemade sail up.

What’s in this video

This one is just for fun. I wanted to see if you could bowfish from a kayak while sailing, and it works quite well. I stand on the back of my Hobie Pro Angler 14 with the sail up and shoot, which also shows how stable this kayak is. It was getting dark, so fish were hard to see. I should have filmed earlier in the day.

The sail is a homemade KayakDIY build. It is mirrored somewhat after the Mirage Sail kit but customized to get more speed and better reaching. The plans are in another video on the channel.

Quick takeaways

  • The Pro Angler 14 is stable enough to stand on the back and shoot a bow while sailing.
  • Bowfish earlier in the day, low light makes fish hard to see.
  • A homemade sail based on the Mirage Sail kit can be tuned for speed and reaching.
