What’s in this video

This one isn’t my build, but I had to share it. It’s the coolest way to store kayaks I’ve seen. These kayak garages, or tubes, each hold up to two kayaks. The design is pretty simple: it looks like they laid in culverts, built a bulkhead or retaining wall, and back-filled behind the culvert.

Not a bad idea, especially if you need a retaining wall anyway to terrace and level your ground or stop erosion. It’s like an underground kayak bunker, and it protects the boats from the sun and just about anything else. I’m a little jealous.

Quick takeaways

  • Each culvert tube stores up to two kayaks.
  • Pairing the tubes with a retaining wall makes sense if you already need to terrace a slope or control erosion.
  • Storing kayaks underground keeps them out of the sun, which helps prevent UV fading.
