What’s in this video

I wanted a gaff that packs small on the kayak but still reaches when I need it, so I made one from a telescoping painter’s pole. It telescopes to nearly twice its length, and the heads swap out: one straight and one hooked.

The heads come from a standard paint roller head and an extended paint roller head. The only tools I used were a bench grinder and a hammer, and the whole build took about 5 minutes.

Quick takeaways

  • The base is a telescoping painter's pole, so it nearly doubles in length when extended.
  • Two swappable heads made from paint roller heads: one straight, one hooked.
  • Tools needed are just a bench grinder and a hammer, and the build takes about 5 minutes.
