What’s in this video

This is part 1 of a multi-part series. I bought a skiff that I plan to customize and rebuild for fishing and adventures. I explain why I wanted the upgrade, meet the seller, do an initial walkthrough inspection of the boat, and then take it out on its maiden voyage for a first test.

There’s a lot coming in later episodes: fabricating, fiberglassing, painting, wiring electronics and more. Thanks to FGCI for hooking us up with resin and fiberglass, and a huge thanks to Mike at the SeaSic channel.

Key moments

  • 0:00 Acquiring a new skiff
  • 0:35 Reasons for the upgrade
  • 1:30 Meeting the seller
  • 2:22 Initial boat inspection
  • 5:13 Maiden voyage and test

Quick takeaways

  • Do a full walkthrough inspection before you commit to a used skiff.
  • Run it on the water first so you know what the rebuild needs.
