What’s in this video

Anchor line gets messy on a kayak fast. In this video I take a simple poly cutting board from Walmart or Amazon and turn it into a functional anchor reel for managing line. The design is similar to the YakAttack Sidewinder.

I show two ways to mount it. The first is a quick release design. The second is a track mounting design that uses affordable hardware: 1/4″ toilet bolts and 1/4″ knobs. A large carabiner and a folding anchor round out the supply list.

Quick takeaways

  • A cheap poly cutting board is the base of the reel.
  • There are two mounting options: quick release or track mount.
  • For the track mount, 1/4" toilet bolts and 1/4" knobs keep the hardware cost down.
