The Recon is built from 1000d reinforced PVC, which lets it run at higher pressure than a TPU packraft so it flexes less in bigger features. The self-bailing design drains water through an inflatable floor with an integrated seat and drain holes, which keeps setup simple and speeds up self-rescue. Kokopelli rates it for rivers and creeks up to Class 4.

Specs at a glance

  • Packraft weight: 18 lbs
  • Capacity: 300 lbs

Good to know

  • The boat is set up for a 3-point thigh-strap system, but the thigh-strap kit is not included, so add it if you plan to run harder whitewater.
  • Pack a pump or inflation bag and check pressure at the put-in, since the main tube and floor run at different pressures (3.0 and 1.0 PSI).

KayakDIY take: A packraft opens up water you could never reach with a hard-shell kayak, as long as you match the boat to the river. For more options, browse all my kayak reviews.
