The Lariat uses two 70 in stranded steel cables with a poly coating, built-in loops and a key lock. Hook and loop straps keep the cables rolled up when not in use. Malone notes it prevents opportunistic theft but is not a full anti-theft device.
Specs at a glance
- Cable: 2-piece, 70 in long, 3/8 in diameter
- Material: stranded steel, poly coated
- Weight: 2.5 lbs
- Includes: cable lock, 2 keys, 2 storage straps, instruction card
- Warranty: 1 year limited
Good to know
- Loop the cable through a solid part of the boat, like a molded handle, and around the rack or vehicle.
- Keep the spare key somewhere other than the car.
KayakDIY take: A cable lock won’t stop a determined thief, but it stops the grab-and-go kind. For more gear ideas, see my fishing kayak accessories guide.
