The Matik folds into a slim horse-collar style vest and inflates when you pull the red tab, which fires a 24 gram CO2 cartridge. It does not inflate automatically. It has a zippered pocket with an internal tether, a manual backup cord, a mouth inflation valve, reflective accents and two attachment points.

KayakDIY take: The best PFD is the one you’ll actually wear, and low-profile inflatables help with that on hot days. For more options, see my fishing kayak accessories guide.
