The plates install inside the hull, between the hull wall and the landing gear backing plates, to spread the load and keep the plastic from crushing or deforming. Each plate is 4 x 8 in and can be trimmed with a jigsaw or bandsaw to fit the shape inside your boat.
Specs at a glance
- Quantity: 2 plates
- Size: 4 x 8 in each (before trimming)
- Material: UHMW plastic
- Fits: Boonedox Groovy Landing Gear installs
Good to know
- Make a cardboard template of the inside of your hull before cutting the plates.
- These matter most on thinner-walled hulls, so check your boat’s construction when planning a landing gear install.
KayakDIY take: Backing plates are cheap insurance any time you bolt hardware through a plastic hull. For more ideas, see my fishing kayak accessories guide.
