2019 Hobie Outback: First Look at the MirageDrive 180 Kayak
I take a first look at the 2019 Hobie Outback and its MirageDrive 180, which pedals full power forward and in reverse.
What’s in this video
The 2019 Hobie Outback runs the MirageDrive 180. You pull one of two shift cables and the fins pivot 180 degrees, so you go from forward to reverse almost instantly. That is a big deal for fishing: backing fish out of cover, fishing close to obstructions or holding in current. The drive weighs under eight pounds.
It also has H-Track Deluxe with the H-Rail integrated track, side accessory tracks, a plier holder, knife slot, tackle retainers and a leash system. The bungee in back holds a livewell, H-Crate or cooler, and there’s a Guardian transducer shield for a fish finder.
Quick takeaways
- MirageDrive 180 shifts from forward to reverse with a pull of a cable
- Push one pedal forward to tuck the fins for shallow water and shore landings
- H-Track rails and side tracks give plenty of accessory mounting spots
- The Guardian transducer shield helps protect a fish finder transducer
