ICECO APL55 Fridge Freezer Review: Power Draw Tested Indoors and Out
I unbox the ICECO APL55 dual zone fridge freezer and measure exactly how much power it uses in my house and in a hot Florida truck bed.
What’s in this video
This is my new ICECO APL55 fridge freezer combo. Out of the box it feels solid: aluminum spring loaded handles and mounts, strap down points, latches that lock in positive and a soft close lid. It comes with a house outlet cable and a 12 volt cigarette adapter cable, plus a spare drain plug. The walls are thick, so I’d expect it to hold temp for an hour or two unplugged.
I didn’t want to just trust the rating, so I ran my own test. Both zones set to 32 degrees, insulated cover on, inside a house at about 75 degrees, with a kilowatt meter on it. Idle it pulls about 2.4 watts and around 40 to 50 watts when the compressor runs. Over 24 hours it used 277 watt hours. On my 12.8 volt 100 amp hour LiTime battery, that’s about 4.6 days.
Then I moved it to the truck bed in Florida and repeated the test on that battery. The bed hit 117 degrees and it still only used 354 watt hours in 24 hours. A small 22 volt, 2 amp solar panel I had from a Bixpy kit kept the battery above 13 volts the whole time.
The company sent it to me, so I’m giving you the data and you can decide. I own a Yeti too. With a Yeti you have to pre chill and you still end up with melted ice and soggy food. This doesn’t have that problem.
Quick takeaways
- Measured draw was 277 Wh per 24 hours indoors and 354 Wh in a 117 degree truck bed, both zones at 32 degrees.
- A 12.8 volt 100Ah LiFePO4 battery could run it about 4.6 days at the indoor rate.
- A small 22 volt, 2 amp solar panel was enough to keep the battery above 13 volts.
- My tests used the insulated cover, so expect somewhat higher draw without it.
