What’s in this video

I went looking for the most powerful sea scooter I could find and ended up with the Firduo Sea Rover, a 4,000 watt scooter. My wife and I loaded one of our tandem kayaks, towed the Sea Rover behind it and paddled up Rainbow River. It’s so big it takes up most of the kayak.

It has three speed settings and a display that shows voltage, amps and even water temp. On high it feels like flying. It does about 15 kilometers per hour, roughly 9.32 miles per hour, and a lot of the time we were going against the river current. It’s about three times the speed of my other sea scooters.

We let a young family take it for a spin, then a crowd showed up and everyone wanted a turn. The low speed and the fact that it floats make it pretty family friendly. The feedback was honest: it’s a little top heavy and it really wants to float, so getting it under the water takes some practice. You can also just lay on it when you get tired. Katie and I tested the lifeguard idea, and we could both hang on behind it against the current. It cost several thousand dollars at the time. Oh, and check the forecast. We didn’t.

Quick takeaways

  • The Sea Rover runs about 15 km/h (roughly 9.32 mph) and still pulled two adults against the river current.
  • It is very buoyant, so it takes practice to get it under the surface, but that makes it easier for kids on the low speed setting.
  • The display shows voltage, amps and water temp, and there are three speed settings.
  • I could tow it behind a tandem kayak to reach deeper spots on the river.
