What’s in this video

Today we’re truck bed camping in Florida with a FLATED inflatable topper, solar, refrigeration, an air conditioner and internet that reaches further than my phone does.

The topper comes with a manual pump, straps, a repair kit and tinted windows. It feels thicker than some of my boats and uses heat welded seams. I inflated it with my electric pump to 5 PSI (the range is 5 to 8), sides first. One person can install it. Cam buckle straps go to the bed tie downs. Lesson learned: put the back window on before you set it on the truck. I jumped on it, then sat inside during a rain storm. Bone dry.

For cooling I used the EcoFlow Wave 2. Hot air goes out a zipper panel, cold air comes in, and condensation drains out the tailgate. It was close to 100 degrees outside and at a 78 degree setting I had almost 5 hours of run time on its own battery. With a solar panel on the roof it was taking around 100 watts at 5 PM and about 160 watts earlier in the day. I can control it from my phone.

The ICECO APL55 dual zone fridge freezer runs on 12 volt power, and I also cover sleeping cool, waking up in the truck, catching some fish from the kayak, and how to size your battery and solar.

Quick takeaways

  • Install the back window before you put the topper on the truck, or you'll be taking it off again.
  • It runs at only 5 to 8 PSI, and the heat welded seams held up in Florida heat and rain.
  • The EcoFlow Wave 2 gave almost 5 hours at a 78 degree setting on its own battery, and you can solar charge it during the day.
  • Cam buckle straps snug it down without overtightening.
