What’s in this video

The Varla Eagle One V2.0 is a 52 volt scooter with a 20.8 amp hour battery, a claimed range of about 45 miles and a 40 mph top speed. It has 2,000 watts, which is 2.6 times the power of the 750 watt fat tire e-bike I’ve towed my kayak with. I’m six foot two and this thing even feels big to me. Assembly is simple: clamp the display on the handlebar, plug in the color coded cables, tighten up the light with the included tools.

To get into the P settings, hold plus and minus, then tap power to cycle. P07 is the one that matters. Mine was set to 65 and I hit 34 mph. At 80, I easily reached and held 40 mph. Hold the left plus button for dual motor mode, and hold the throttle eight seconds for cruise control.

On rough trails in mode two at about 15 mph it ate through rocks and bumps, and climbed a gnarly hill I haven’t even taken my e-bikes up. The only limit was ground clearance on big boulders. It held speed on a steep grade, took a hard rain, and the 10 inch tubeless tires with rear hydraulic and front spring suspension rode smooth. The hydraulic disc brakes stopped me fast. My one gripe is the pink tether on the stem.

Quick takeaways

  • Raising the P07 setting from 65 to 80 took my top speed from 34 mph to the full 40 mph.
  • Hold the left plus button to switch between dual motor and single motor mode.
  • Torque was never the problem off-road. Ground clearance on big boulders was the limit.
