What’s in this video

At ICAST 2025 the new Garmin Force Current was on the back of a Bonafide, and a Garmin rep walked me through it. The Power Steer foot pedals are fully wireless and run on AA batteries that should last a season. They control thrust and steering hands free. Push both toes forward for full speed ahead, both heels back for reverse, or one each way to spin in place. There are also buttons on the pedals for anchor lock and heading hold.

Every box comes with a remote that controls thrust, steering and autopilot modes. It even has gesture steering, kind of like an old Wii controller. Your chart plotter can create and follow routes and go to waypoints. The motor uses the common Power-Pole Micro bolt pattern, 3.75 by 4.75 inch, and a through-hole mount comes in the box too. A stow cable tilts it up. The MOB tag is a wireless kill switch, and if it dies or gets lost there’s an override mode that beeps once a minute. It’s brushless and runs on 12V (30 lb of thrust) or 24V (50 lb). The power cable is quick disconnect, and the motor is about 25 lb to pop off and toss in the truck.

Then I went out with my buddy Joe Oceanside. Everything ran with my feet. Heading hold was hard to tap without bumping it back out, but anchor lock held us in the general area while we looked at live sonar. At the time of the video the price was $3,599 with the pedals and $2,999 without.

Key moments

Quick takeaways

  • The foot pedals are wireless, so there are no steering lines to run during the install.
  • Run it on 24V for 50 lb of thrust or 12V for 30 lb.
  • Heading hold is easy to bump off with your foot, so tap the pedal button carefully.
  • It uses the 3.75 by 4.75 inch Power-Pole Micro bolt pattern, and a through-hole mount is included.
