This one is short and it’s not about kayaks. Hurricane Ian hit our home in Cape Coral. Neighbors told me five foot waves were crashing against the house, with water over the truck hood. My wife was trapped in the home with flood water and sewage pouring in, and for a while we thought that was it. My daughter and I were in Iowa. Right now everything we own fits in three carry-on suitcases.
I also talk about a friend who stayed a block over and kept sending me photos of my house. He hadn’t answered me that morning, and it made me realize how little the house matters. Then I share aerial footage the Lee County Sheriff’s Office filmed of the damage, including our home. Our kayak rental business and the hospital where we worked are both on hold, so the description has links for anyone who wants to help us or the community.
