Hobie Mirage Eclipse Pedal Board: Full Review and Water Test
I put the Hobie Mirage Eclipse pedal paddle board on the water to see how a stand up pedal drive compares to the Mirage drive kayaks.
What’s in this video
The Hobie Eclipse is a paddle board you pedal standing up. It comes in 10 ft and 12 ft models, in a standard or a Dura edition, which is a tougher hull built for rental fleets. You run it almost like a stair stepper, and the big Flow Fin 90s (a split, butterfly style fin) push it across the water with ease.
The drive well is nearly identical to the one in Hobie’s Mirage kayaks like the Outback and Pro Angler, but the posts and fins are different. I’d love to see Hobie make this a kayak and board hybrid. I think it would be great for fishing too: a rod holder on the handlebars and a cooler on the back. My wife wants one really bad.
Quick takeaways
- Comes in 10 ft and 12 ft lengths, standard or Dura (heavier duty rental hull)
- You pedal it standing, like a stair stepper, using Flow Fin 90 split fins
- The drive well is close to the Mirage kayak well, but a kayak drive would be awkward without a seat and rudder controls
- For fishing, a rail mount rod holder on the handlebars and a cooler on the back would work
