What’s in this video

Pelican just released a prototype pedal kayak, the Catch 130HD HyDryve. It uses a fin style pedal drive similar to Hobie, with some differences. To me it felt smoother to pedal than the M180 drive on my Hobie. There’s no reverse, but you can flip the drive backwards to get it.

Overall it’s lightweight, stable and the drive works great. At $1,499 at the time of the video, it’s one of the lowest priced pedal kayaks out there. The drive well looks a lot like Hobie’s in size, so it may work with Hobie motor kits, but that’s still to be determined.

Quick takeaways

  • The HyDryve has no reverse, but you can flip the drive backwards.
  • The price was $1,499 at the time, one of the lowest for a pedal kayak.
  • The drive well is close to Hobie's size, so Hobie motor kits may fit (not confirmed).
