What’s in this video

Running out of GoPro battery halfway through a day on the water drove me nuts, so I modified my housing to take outside power. The three essential parts are a PG7 cable gland, a battery eliminator for the Hero 3 or 3+ (there is also a complete kit for the Hero 3+ and 4), and a USB battery pack. Marine Goop is optional for extra sealing around the gland.

I show the tools I used and how the parts go together so the camera stays in the waterproof housing while it runs off the battery pack. The full supply list with links is in the description.

Quick takeaways

  • The core parts are a PG7 cable gland, a GoPro battery eliminator and a USB battery pack.
  • Marine Goop around the cable gland adds extra sealing protection.
