What if your pedal kayak fit in the trunk of your car? The ReelYaks 10ft Radar is a modular fishing kayak that splits into two sections, each light enough to carry solo. This bundle pairs it with a fin pedal drive and a Bixpy electric trolling motor, so you get quiet pedal power for fishing and motor power for covering water. No roof rack, no trailer, no excuses.

To haul your kayak, we recommend Malone kayak trailers. See them here.

For a GPS trolling motor, we recommend the AutoBoat Smart Head Kit and the new AutoBoat Meridian. Check them out here.

Who the Radar bundle is for

This is for the angler with no roof rack and no storage space. Apartment, condo, small SUV, sedan. If hauling a 12 foot kayak has been the thing stopping you, the Radar removes that excuse completely. It’s also a smart pick for travelers and anyone who wants both pedal and motor power without buying two boats. The bundle covers you from launch to weigh-in.

Stability: a 33 inch W-hull

The Radar runs a 33 inch wide W-shaped hull designed for stand-up stability. In calm to moderate water, most anglers up to around 230 pounds can stand and fish comfortably. The Bixpy motor mounts low and doesn’t meaningfully hurt that stability. In strong current or heavy boat wake, sitting is the smarter play, like any 10 foot boat. For ponds, lakes, and protected saltwater, it’s a solid, confidence-inspiring platform.

Comfort and the seat

It ships with a padded stadium seat that’s comfortable for a few hours on the water. It’s not a premium framed seat, so if you’re doing dawn-to-dark tournament days, plan on seat upgrades. Reel Yaks offers upgrades at checkout, including seat raisers and a 360 degree swivel seat. The cockpit is open and simple, which keeps the modular design clean and easy to clean out after a muddy day.

The modular design: two pieces, no roof rack

This is the headline feature. The Radar splits into front and rear sections, roughly 59 by 33 inches each, weighing about 32 to 36 pounds apiece. Both halves fit in the trunk or back seat of most SUVs, hatchbacks, and many sedans. Assembly takes under five minutes once you’ve done it a couple of times. The halves interlock and clip together with latches, no tools needed. You do roll the boat on its side once to reach the underside latches, which feels odd the first time and normal after that.

Fin drive plus Bixpy motor

You get two propulsion systems, and they complement each other well. The fin pedal drive uses side-to-side flaps that are silent and weed-free, perfect for skinny water around docks and grass. It’s the drive you use once you’re on the spot. The Bixpy electric trolling motor, which includes its battery, is for getting there: covering distance, pushing through wind, and fighting current. Most owners run the motor to the spot and pedal to fish it. The Bixpy mounts to the kayak’s designated mounting points with no drilling and detaches cleanly for pedal-only simplicity. Typical owners report 1 to 3 hours of motor time per charge depending on speed and conditions.

Storage and rigging

The bundle includes a lot: the two kayak sections, fin drive with spare fins, paddle, seat, a 360 degree rod holder, two flush mount rod holders, two accessory rail tracks, a forward hatch, an 8 inch cockpit hatch, scupper plugs, and carry handles. There’s a transducer recess in the hull that accepts a standard puck transducer with no drilling, and wiring routes through the scupper holes. It works with Lowrance, Garmin, and Humminbird puck transducers.

Honest drawbacks

A two-piece boat will never be quite as rigid as a one-piece hull, and you can feel a little flex at the seam in chop. It’s minor, but it’s real. You’re also storing and hauling two sections instead of one, so it takes up more trunk space than the “fits in your car” pitch suggests. The fin drive is quiet and weedless, but it lacks the instant reverse of a propeller drive. The Bixpy adds cost, weight, and a battery you have to remember to charge. And while 85 pounds assembled is manageable in two pieces, neither piece is featherweight. In most states a low-thrust electric motor doesn’t need registration, but rules vary, so check your state’s boating regs before you launch.
