Who the Lynx is for
This kayak is for the angler who is done wrestling heavy boats. If you launch solo, carry your kayak down stairs or docks, travel with it, or just want fishing to feel easy again, the Lynx is built for you. It suits lakes, ponds, creeks, estuaries, and calm coastal water. It is also a great second boat for the traveling angler.

The MirageDrive 180 with Kick-Up Fins
Hobie’s MirageDrive 180 is the most proven pedal drive in kayak fishing. You get forward and reverse with a simple pull of a shift lever, and the Kick-Up Fins fold back on impact with stumps or shallow bottom, then snap back into place. The fin motion is smooth and efficient, and it is quiet enough for shallow-water stalking. The drive pops out in seconds for transport or for paddling the skinniest water.
Hobie’s fin drive also has a meaningful edge over the propeller-style pedal drives most other brands use, and it shows up in shallow water. A propeller typically sticks down a foot or slightly more below the hull and needs a foot of depth or more to spin freely — run skinny and you are either dragging it through the bottom or pulling the whole drive up. Hobie’s fins do not have that problem. They can lay almost flat against the underside of the hull and still flutter enough to keep you moving. You can pedal through water so shallow a propeller drive would be stuck in it.

The Lynx uses a flat-bottom, low-profile hull that is 36 inches wide, and it is surprisingly stable for such a light boat. It is a nimble, maneuverable hull that turns on a dime and slips into backwaters bigger boats cannot reach.
Seat comfort and rigging
The elevated frame seat uses breathable mono-mesh to keep you cool and dry all day, with a comfortable pedaling position. Rigging is simple but effective: molded-in gear tracks on both sides, an accessory mount on the bow for a sail kit, Bimini, or rod holder and camera mount, bow and stern bungees, a seat-mounted cup holder, and a scupper for a Power-Pole Micro spike. This has prevented many from purchasing. However, some dealers are starting to get parts in stock. Before purchasing in 2026 verify that you can find parts like replacement mirage drive fins. The low-profile design means low freeboard, so you will take spray in chop and your feet stay closer to the water. Storage is modest compared to a Pro Angler: no big front hatch, just bungee decks and a small footprint for a crate. The light ACE-TEC hull is tough, but it is not the thick rotomolded plastic of Hobie’s bigger boats, so treat oyster bars with respect. And the price sits in premium territory for an 11-foot boat.
