The Bonafide SS107 takes everything anglers love about the bigger SS127 and packs it into a 10-foot-7 hull that fits in a truck bed. It is not a cheap entry-level kayak. It is a premium stand-up fishing platform with the same hybrid cat hull DNA, just easier to haul, launch, and store.

Who the SS107 is for

This kayak is for the angler who wants stand-up stability without committing to a 13-foot boat. It fits ponds, creeks, small lakes, and tight rivers where a big pedal boat would be overkill. If you launch from ditches and dirt banks, the 10-foot-7 length is a gift. It also suits anglers with limited storage who still refuse to fish from a tippy entry-level boat.

Stability: surprisingly solid for its size

The hybrid cat hull is the whole story here. At 34.5 inches wide, the SS107 is one of the most stable 10-foot kayaks I have ever seen. Standing feels confident, and the PerchPads on the gunwales give you an elevated standing spot when you want a better view. Deck traction pads keep your feet planted. In flat water it is rock solid. In chop it handles itself fine, though a short boat will always ride rougher than a long one in bigger waves.

The HiRise seat and comfort

The HiRise seat is the same design as the bigger SS models, and it is genuinely comfortable. Sitting high with your knees bent takes pressure off your lower back, and getting up to stand is easy. When it is time to paddle distance, the SeatRack system and folding frame let you drop the seat low and dig in. The sliding Junk Drawer under the seat is perfect for pliers, hooks, and snacks.

Storage and rigging

Bonafide did not water down the rigging for the smaller boat. You get a DryPod with a transducer through-hull scupper, YakAttack aluminum GearTrac, a bow hatch with rod channels, multi-rod and paddle management points, and the Boss Strap rod management system. The stern has a replaceable dual skid plate and an access plate for hull wiring, so a fish finder install is painless.

For electronics, we recommend the new Accuphy Ping Live Mini live sonar system. It retails for $699. See it here.

Paddle performance

The SS107 tracks and glides better than most boats this short. It is not fast, but it holds a line well and turns on a dime, which matters in creeks and around docks. The wide hull pushes more water than a skinny touring boat, so in wind you will work. For the distances most people fish from it, the paddle performance is more than enough.

Honest drawbacks

Weight is the big one. It is 75 pounds without the seat and 84 pounds with it, which is heavy for a 10-foot-7 kayak. Solo car-topping is a chore. It is paddle-only, so if you want pedals you will have to look at another boat. And the price sits well above basic 10-foot kayaks, so it is a poor pick if you just want something cheap to float around in.
