Perception Kayaks: Every Model Compared

Pescador Pro, Outlaw, Showdown and Crank fishing kayaks, plus the Tribe, Carolina, Hangtime and other recreational boats. Affordable kayaks I have paddled for years.

Why I keep recommending Perception

I have loved my Perception kayaks. Perception is where a lot of people start, because the boats are affordable and stable, and my own family tandem is a West Marine Abaco 13.5, which is the same hull as the Perception Rambler 13.5. It holds 550 lb, the tri-hull is stable, and we have done beach surf launches in street clothes without getting soaked. We have had two adults and two small kids on it.

I was there at ICAST 2016 when Perception showed the Pescador Pilot 120, which at the time looked like it might be the most affordable pedal kayak on the market. In 2019 I got on the water with the Outlaw 11.5 paddle kayak and the Crank pedal kayak with the Pilot Drive.

Some background: Perception is part of Confluence Outdoor in Greenville, South Carolina, the same company behind Wilderness Systems.
