The Will-I-Loader slides into a 50 mm hitch receiver. You roll the kayak up on a trolley, set the nose on the loader’s padded V, then push the boat up and forward onto the roof while the gas strut takes the weight. On the way down the strut supports the load, which helps protect rudders and sterns.

KayakDIY take: Loading a heavy kayak alone onto a tall vehicle is exactly where a strut-assisted loader helps. For more gear, see my fishing kayak accessories guide.
