The Recon joins two sections with top latches into a 35 in wide W-shaped hull for stable stand-up fishing. The fin drive uses flaps that sweep side to side, which slides over weeds and shallows. It has a flush-mounted rudder, a reinforced rear trolling motor mount, a deep battery box, flush spots for electronics and navigation light mounts.

Good to know
- ReelYaks says the Recon suits medium-size cars, so measure your cargo area against the 63 in section length before ordering.
- Fin drives move forward only, so practice turning with the rudder in tight spots before you fish around docks and timber.
KayakDIY take: Modular hulls are a smart fix if loading a full-length kayak is what keeps you off the water. For more options, see my best pedal kayaks guide.
