What’s in this video

At ICAST 2024 in Orlando I stopped by BOTE. The Lono had a Bixpy K1 motor mounted mid-hull underneath it. The K1 is about the size of a 12 oz can of soda, it has 12 speeds forward so you can dial it in for trolling, and the battery pack floats. There are over 70 different mounts for the Bixpy motor.

The Lono and the Deus both have higher sides, and being a dad I like that. My kid or my dog can sit up front and feel more secure, you can keep a cooler in the middle, and they can swim off the back and get back on easy. There’s a stash net in the back so your gear won’t slide off, a rudder system and a Power-Pole mount.

I also showed the BOTE dock I sometimes put next to my boat. It turns our smaller 19 ft boat into what feels like a giant patio, and it all folds up into a bag. The part I liked most: the drive is interchangeable. You can run the Bixpy or drop in the Apex pedal drive, and it fits both the Rackham and the Lono.

Quick takeaways

  • The Bixpy K1 mounts mid-hull under the Lono, has 12 forward speeds for trolling, and its battery pack floats.
  • The drive is interchangeable: run the Bixpy or swap in BOTE's Apex pedal drive, on both the Lono and the Rackham.
  • Higher sides on the Lono and Deus make them a good pick for paddling with a kid or a dog.
