What’s in this video

We call this the Yak Angler’s Lightning Rod pole light. It’s a CB antenna rod, an LED light kit and shrink tubing, and it took very little time to build. I cut the AC adapter wire on the light kit so it runs on DC battery power.

I assemble the pole, apply the heat shrink tubing, talk through my mount plan and then demo the lights. The lights are waterproof and the remote changes colors and modes. The remote receiver is not waterproof, so put it in a dry spot on the kayak or waterproof it. The end of the rod is a 3/8-24 threaded rod, so a RAM ball or Scotty mount is an easy next step.

Quick takeaways

  • Cut the light kit's AC adapter wire to run it on DC battery power.
  • The lights are waterproof but the remote receiver is not, so keep it in a dry spot.
  • The rod ends in 3/8-24 thread, which makes a RAM or Scotty mount easy to adapt.
