What’s in this video

Setting up the Hiboy S2 Pro took a minute or two: unlock the stem, slide in the handlebar, four screws. It weighs 36 pounds, so someone could carry it off, but the app lock mode fights back. The harder you push, the more the motor resists. I wouldn’t trust lock mode alone in a big city, though. Run a cable through the seat post hole in the deck for a real lock.

The black throttle is go, the red one is regenerative braking, which I use more than the disc brakes because it’s so smooth. The discs can stop me in about 15 feet. It has 10 inch tubeless tires, so no flats, but they make rough boardwalks bumpy. The aluminum frame and rear dual shock are thick and solid, and the 500 watt front motor sits where it’s easy to service. Hiboy sells parts on their site.

The slanted stem makes it very stable, even carrying groceries on the hook. The seat is a nice option to brace your legs against. I’m six foot two and about 205 pounds, I easily hit the 19 mph top speed, and I get 17 to 18 miles in sport mode. At the time of the video it was $499. I even ran into two Hiboy owners on the road, and they love theirs.

Quick takeaways

  • App lock mode makes the motor resist if someone moves the scooter, but add a cable lock through the seat post hole.
  • At about 205 lb in sport mode I got 17 to 18 miles per charge. Eco mode should get closer to the 20 to 25 mile range.
  • The red regen throttle brakes smoothly and puts power back into the battery.
  • Charge it fully before storage and at least every three months for the longest battery life.
