What’s in this video

At ICAST 2024 Jared walked me through the Hoodoo lineup. First up was the Element 100S, their paddle only model for under $1,000 at the time. It’s about 60 lb and comes rigged for fishing: molded in grab handles (a big deal in Florida, where fabric handles dry rot), a well placed drain plug, dry storage with a bag insert, threaded mounts that fit Scotty, YakGear and Railblaza, accessory rails, and an aluminum frame stadium seat with two heights. There are spots for outriggers and a rudder too.

Then the pedal boats. The Tempest 120P uses a propeller drive. It’s 12 ft by 34 in, 80 lb with a 450 lb capacity, and you pedal backward for reverse. The same drive goes in the Voyager 100P. The Impulse 120 is their flagship with the fin style iDrive, which fits the Impulse 105, 120 and 135. The fin drive shines in the flats because you can run much skinnier water. It locks in with a metal frame, not plastic tabs, which cuts down on wiggle and wear.

The Impulse has a center spot for your graph, factory rod holders right in front of you, track mounts, a sealed center well I’d use for live shrimp, a seat that adjusts height and slides fore and aft, hull access hatches for wiring and a spring loaded rudder.

Key moments

Quick takeaways

  • Fin drives run shallower than propeller drives; prop drives give you reverse by pedaling backward.
  • Molded in grab handles outlast fabric handles that dry rot in the sun.
  • The Tempest 120P is 12 ft by 34 in, 80 lb, with a 450 lb weight capacity.
  • Hull access hatches under the seat and at the stern make wiring a fish finder much easier.
