Best Fishing Sunglasses: Comparing NINES, Costa, Maui Jim and More
I tried a pile of sunglasses brands at ICAST indoors and outdoors, and I share why NINES ended up being the pair I wear every day.
What’s in this video
For a long time I bought cheap gas station sunglasses. Everything looked dull and dark, the polarization and clarity were bad, and on the water they spotted up. I almost bought Costas on the name alone until a friend’s frame and nose piece fell apart. So at ICAST I went hunting for the clearest lens. I tried Costa, Smith, Maui Jim, Wiley X and NINES, indoors and outdoors.
With the NINES everything looked more vibrant and I wasn’t squinting into the Florida sun. With Costas, looking toward the sun I lost clarity and color. NINES use their patented NIRTEC filters, and the name comes from the 9 filtering technologies in the lens. My wife and I have worn the same pair for 2 years and they still look new.
Quick takeaways
- Try sunglasses indoors and outdoors, and look toward the sun, before you buy.
- Cheap sunglasses dull colors, spot up on the water and limit how well you see.
- My NINES have held up to 2 years of daily wear and still look new.
