Installing a Scotty 241 Rod Holder Mount Without Hull Access
I install a Scotty 241 rod holder mount on a kayak with no access to the inside of the hull, the first mod on my poor man's fishing kayak.
What’s in this video
If your kayak has no access to the inside of the hull, you can still add a Scotty 241 rod holder mount. I install them here on my poor man’s fishing kayak, a $50 Craigslist find (the price I paid at the time) and part of a playlist for kayak anglers on a strict budget.
After going over supplies, I do the installation using Tri-Grip rivets and marine Goop. Scotty well nuts are an alternative for mounting. This is modification #1, and with two of these rod holders on, it’s already starting to look like a fishing kayak.
Key moments
Quick takeaways
- Tri-Grip rivets let you mount a Scotty 241 without reaching inside the hull.
- Marine Goop is part of the install along with the rivets.
- Scotty well nuts are an alternative way to mount it.
