Best Bed Extender for Trucks and SUVs to Haul Long Kayaks
I show the hitch bed extender I use to haul my long, heavy Hobie Pro Angler 14 in a short bed truck, and how it adapts for SUVs.
What’s in this video
This is the setup I use to haul long, heavy kayaks. I load my Hobie Pro Angler 14 (14 feet, 140 lbs) into a 5.5 foot short box truck bed using a hitch mounted adjustable bed extender. It works horizontally or vertically, so it can be used with trucks or SUVs.
The one shown is a heavy duty model. Some cheaper models do not have the same flexibility on SUVs. If your car has no hitch, you will need a different solution like a universal roof rack.
Quick takeaways
- A hitch bed extender handled a 14 ft, 140 lb Pro Angler in a 5.5 ft short bed.
- Look for one that positions horizontally or vertically if you need it on an SUV.
- No hitch on your car means looking at a roof rack instead.
