What’s in this video

At ICAST 2024 I met up with the creator and owner of Bixpy. You’ve seen this motor on my channel before. It’s about the size of a can of Coke and it has a ton of thrust.

The new PP-768 battery is roughly 20% smaller and lighter, uses lithium iron phosphate cells, runs the motor for about 2.5 hours and adds a 13th speed. New firmware was coming right after the show. Their batteries float and are fully waterproof. The bigger battery has T tracks on top for mounting cameras, but no auxiliary port, so if you want to run a fish finder off it you need the smaller battery with the aux port or a separate battery. The control module pops off, so you keep the expensive battery core if things change.

The smaller battery can be solar charged. In good strong sun the panel fills it in about 6 to 8 hours. You can’t run and charge at the same time.

At the booth they had it on a BOTE board pushing about 4.5 mph, a power pole setup with their pole steering, and on the Vibe Uptown 100 three ways: in the pedal drive pod, on their new rudder, or in the fin box. I’d go pole steering on that boat because there are no lines to run. They also have adapters for flat mounts, flip and lock, US fin boxes and slide and lock fin boxes, plus 20 something other mounts.

Quick takeaways

  • The new PP-768 battery is about 20% smaller and lighter and runs the motor about 2.5 hours.
  • The big battery has no auxiliary port, so plan a separate battery if you want to power a fish finder.
  • The solar panel charges the smaller battery in about 6 to 8 hours of strong sun, but not while you're running.
  • Pole steering is the fastest setup since you skip running rudder lines.
