Bixpy Jet Drive on a Kayak and Paddle Board: Speed and Drag Test
My buddy Brandon wanted to try a Bixpy jet drive before buying one, so we mounted it to his paddle board and ran it hard.
What’s in this video
My buddy Brandon was thinking about buying one of these Bixpy motor kits, but he wanted to try it first. So he brought his paddle board, we mounted the jet drive and let him run it. I’ve had my Bixpy for several years. It’s reliable, it’s durable, and it has fit just about every paddle craft I’ve tried it on.
The motor has 12 forward speeds. On speed 12 it’s at least as fast as a pedal kayak with someone pedaling hard, and I could barely keep up. One thing Brandon found out quickly: if you hit the stop button, the stop is pretty abrupt. He wasn’t standing, but he still kind of tumbled.
The big test was paddling with the motor off. With the Bixpy mounted in place of his center fin, he said it feels the same as his normal fin. No extra drag. He also liked that he never has to worry about the tide, the wind or how far he went, because the motor will get him home. The battery stayed put under the board’s bungees. By the end he said next time I see him, he’s going to have one.
