What’s in this video

The Blu3 Nemo is a surface supplied air dive system. There’s no tank. A battery powered pump floats on the surface and feeds you air. Everything fits in this little box, it gives me two hours of dive time, and it’s TSA compliant, so I could fly with it or pack it on my kayak.

It was winter in Florida and the water was cold, so I wore a wetsuit. If you’re cold, you use up more air. My dive fins clip onto the backpack, which is handy. To start, you turn the dial on the regulator to switch on the on-demand air, and the pump kicks on when you breathe in. Without heavy gear on me, I had a lot of freedom in the water.

Within seconds I found a fishing lure. Then a nice pair of sunglasses, which I gave to a lady on the beach. I also found a sea urchin, hermit crabs and a giant horse conch. A crab split my finger open when I grabbed it one handed. Later I caught a bigger stone crab to get some pride back and let it go. I like to clean up fishing line and lures when I dive, and some of those lures I can reuse. This thing is so portable that I can be diving in no time.

Quick takeaways

  • The Nemo uses a battery powered surface pump instead of a tank, and the whole kit fits in a small, TSA compliant box.
  • Turn the regulator dial to start on-demand air. The pump runs when you inhale.
  • Wear a wetsuit in cold water, because being cold makes you use more air.
  • Don't grab crabs one handed. One split my finger open.
