The Pungo 120 is one of the best-selling recreational kayaks in the country, and it earned that spot the old-fashioned way. It paddles straight, it feels stable the moment you sit in it, and the seat is one of the most comfortable in the business. This is the 12-foot, 2-inch middle sibling in the Pungo line, aimed at lakes, slow rivers, and calm coastal water.

Who This Kayak Is For
The Pungo 120 fits paddlers who want to cover water efficiently without fighting their boat. If you paddle a slow river one weekend and a lake the next, this is exactly that boat. The big 57 by 22 inch cockpit makes it easy to get in and out, so it works for folks with stiff knees or anyone who hates squeezing into a small sea kayak cockpit.
It is also a sneaky-good casual fishing platform. It is not a dedicated fishing kayak, but the SlideTrax rails take rod holders and mounts with ease.
Stability and On-Water Performance
The Pungo’s modified-V hull runs a keel line down the center, which is why it tracks so true. New paddlers feel stable from the first stroke because of that flat-ish center section, and the long waterline gives it real glide. At 49 pounds it is light enough to car-top without help.
The trade is maneuverability. A 12-foot touring-style hull does not spin on a dime in tight creeks. You also get wind push on open water, since the tall deck catches a breeze.

Comfort and Seating
The Phase 3 AirPro seat is the standout. Mesh fabric covers and vented 3D foam keep air moving under you, and the seatback adjusts to fit different paddlers. Thigh padding and the SlideLock XL foot brace system round out a cockpit that stays comfortable for hours.
The SlideLock braces adjust from the seat with an extension rod, so you are not fumbling down by your feet. Small thing, big difference on the water.
Storage and Rigging
You get an Orbix stern hatch with a sealed bulkhead for dry storage, a removable DryTec dry box in the dashboard, two cup holders, and configurable bungees on the rear deck. The dashboard has a recess for a Wilderness Systems lithium battery if you run electronics, plus SlideTrax rails and mounting surfaces for accessories. For the battery, I recommend the WattCycle 12V 100Ah mini LiFePO4 battery with Bluetoothit runs most 12V trolling motors up to 55lb thrust plus a fish finder, and it’s compact and light.
A replaceable skid plate on the stern protects the hull when you drag it to the launch, which you will do at 49 pounds.

Honest Drawbacks
The 325-pound capacity is fine for most paddlers, but bigger folks who want to camp or load heavy gear will run out of room fast. The sit-inside design means a capsize fills the cockpit, and without a spray skirt you will take on water in chop. And while it can be fished from, serious anglers will miss the standing stability and rigging of a dedicated fishing hull.
