This is a sit-inside recreational kayak, not a dedicated fishing platform, but light-tackle anglers love it. The dashboard console has SlideTrax rails that accept rod holders and phone mounts, so you can rig it for fishing without much trouble.

Who the Pungo 125 Is For

The Pungo 125 is for paddlers who want to cover distance on lakes, slow rivers, and calm bays with minimal effort. It is also a great pick for bigger paddlers, since the 57-inch cockpit and 375-pound capacity give you real room. Anglers who fish light with one or two rods will find it works fine. If you want to stand and fish or run a pedal drive, this is not your boat.

Stability and Handling

The Pungo hull has reassuring stability without feeling sluggish. It tracks straight, which is why it feels so efficient on long paddles, and the multi-chined hull gives you confidence when you lean into a turn. It handles light chop fine, but this is a flatwater boat at heart: surf, rapids, and big boat wakes are not its game.

Comfort and Seat

The Phase 3 AirPro seat is the standout feature. Fully adjustable with mesh over vented foam, it supports your lower back and keeps you cool on hot days. Thigh pads and adjustable foot braces let you dial in the fit. I have paddled for five or six hours in a Pungo and stepped out feeling fine, which is more than I can say for most rec kayaks.

Storage and Rigging

The Pungo dashboard is one of the best consoles in recreational kayaking: a removable dry box for your phone and keys, two cup holders, SlideTrax for mounting accessories, and a recess for an optional lithium battery to charge electronics. For the battery, I recommend the WattCycle 12V 100Ah mini LiFePO4 battery with Bluetoothit runs most 12V trolling motors up to 55lb thrust plus a fish finder, and it’s compact and light. The large Orbix stern hatch with a sealed bulkhead keeps a full day of gear dry. Deck bungees up front hold a dry bag or jacket.

Paddle Performance

This is where the Pungo earns its reputation. It is the easiest-paddling, most efficient kayak in its class. The long waterline and clean hull shape mean each stroke takes you farther, so you can cover more water with less fatigue. Beginners notice it right away: the boat goes straight and does not fight you. Experienced paddlers appreciate how little energy a long cruise takes.

Honest Drawbacks

It is a sit-inside kayak, so you sit lower and cannot stand to fish. The 375-pound capacity is modest for a 12’6″ boat, so bigger paddlers with lots of gear should watch the total. There is no pedal drive option and limited flat deck space for mounting lots of fishing accessories. And at 53 pounds it is light for its size, but the length still makes solo car-topping a bit awkward.
