Who the Frontier 12 Is For
This boat is for the angler who refuses to pick just one style of fishing. Solo on a river one day, tandem with a buddy or a kid the next, duck hunting in the fall, powered with a trolling motor when you want to cover water. The Frontier 12 does all of it. It is also a great pick for bigger anglers, since the 650-pound capacity and 41-inch beam handle large paddlers plus gear without breaking a sweat.
Stability: Ridiculously Solid
NuCanoe’s reputation was built on stability, and the Frontier 12 is the boat that built it. The wide, flat Cast and Blast deck is 20 inches across, and you can stand, walk, and cast from anywhere on it. It feels closer to a johnboat than a kayak when you are on your feet.
Seat Comfort
The Access Series comes with a comfortable framed seat, and the Frontier 12 platform supports NuCanoe’s 360 seating, so you can spin to face the action in any direction. The seat position is adjustable along the deck, which means you can dial in your trim whether you are solo, tandem, or loaded with hunting gear.
Storage and Rigging
Rigging is where the Frontier 12 shines. It has 172 inches of Freedom Track running along the deck, so you can mount rod holders, electronics, anchors, and cameras anywhere without drilling a single hole. The open deck layout means nothing is in your way. Go solo with a centered seat, run tandem with two seats, or strip it down for hunting. The square transom accepts a trolling motor or a small outboard up to 2.5 HP. Gear Vault hatches and a front tankwell keep the essentials organized.
Paddling and Motor Options
For a 41-inch-wide boat, the Frontier 12 paddles better than it has any right to. The moderate rocker keeps it maneuverable in rivers, and it tracks well enough for lake work. Most owners solve the speed question with a motor. A transom-mount trolling motor turns it into an efficient fishing machine.
Honest Drawbacks
The hull weighs 80 pounds, so this is not a boat you will enjoy car-topping alone. A trailer or a truck bed is the way to go. The width that makes it so stable also makes it slower to paddle than a narrower kayak, so long paddles against the wind take effort.
