The NT300 uses a brushless direct drive motor with a digital throttle, an LCD screen and a magnetic safety kill switch. Newport lists a top speed of 6.5 MPH, a range of 7 to 66 miles and up to 30 hours of runtime, depending on the battery. It needs a 36V battery, which you choose separately.

Good to know
- Budget for a 36V battery, since the motor needs one to run and your range depends heavily on which battery you pair with it.
- This is a transom-style outboard for small boats, so make sure your boat has a transom or motor mount that suits the 24.6 in standard shaft.
KayakDIY take: This is a main motor for a small boat rather than a kayak motor, and Newport’s NT600 is the step up for a heavier hull. For more options, see my best kayak motors guide.
