Bixpy Jet DIY Kit: Installing a Kayak Motor on the Rudder
I walk through installing the Bixpy Jet DIY kit on a kayak rudder, step by step, from cutting the rudder to battery setup and testing.
What’s in this video
I used my Viking kayak to test this, but you don’t need a Viking to run a Bixpy. The idea is simple: take a rudder, overlay the template, reshape it so the four bolts line up, and the Bixpy motor mounts right to it. Bixpy works with your existing rudder, or you can get their universal rudder that’s ready to go.
I go through it in order: cutting the rudder, installing the motor mount, putting on the up-haul bracket and bungee, adding the up-haul hardware, routing the lines and testing them. Then I attach the motor, set up the battery and test it all. It’s very easy, and a lot of kayaks can take a rudder without much work.

- If you don't want to modify a rudder, Bixpy sells a universal rudder already set up for the motor.
