How to Make a Fishing Kayak: Budget Mods on the Elie Coast 120xe
I rig up the Elie Coast 120xe for fishing on a budget, adding mounts for rods and gear, then take it out around southwest Florida.
What’s in this video
The Elie Coast 120xe is great with nothing added, but I wanted mounts for holding rods and fishing gear. I install Railblaza accessories and a flush mount rod holder. I didn’t show it, but my SlideTrax crate livewell combo also fits in the rear tray.
This kayak is really lightweight for its length. I filmed around Matlacha Island and Cape Coral, Florida, and family who visited all enjoyed paddling it. I’m not done with it yet, so DIY outriggers or motor mods could be next.
Quick takeaways
- The Elie Coast 120xe is light for its length.
- A SlideTrax milk crate livewell combo fits in the rear tray.
- Railblaza mounts and a flush mount rod holder cover the basics without much spend.
